Yes, I said SHOES!!!!! As many of you know, I am a Style Expert for Kim Kardashian's Shoe Society, ShoeDazzle. It's really important that I am always on-top of the trends and attending this shoe show only enhances my knowledge on trends for A/W 2010.

COLOR PALETTE for A/W 2010-2011

Wondering which hues for shoes will be must-haves for consumers next fall? According to Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute and the head of the Eiseman Center for Color Information and Training, buyers may want to look to the past, present and future to get a sense of coming color trends. “The big picture theme is a Mosaic of Color and Style,” she says. “This reflects cultural, universal time frames and seemingly disconnected elements. Though new technologies continue to reinvent the future, we may notice some things have a vaguely nostalgic feeling.”

The interest in making everything old new again stems from, yes, the current economy. “Since people are thinking about the economy, that’s telling us some of the styling of the past isn’t discarded, but instead brought back in a new way. What’s important today is to think in terms of practicality. People are going to ask themselves, gee, I already have six pairs of black shoes, so why do I need another pair? Retailers are going to want to give them something new, and this is where color plays an important role. For example, maybe a consumer is drawn to a purple car, but when they get to the show room they decide to go with the black version. But you need to have that purple car to get their attention.”

“One theme under the larger Mosaic idea is called Molecular. It embraces a lot of darker shades, which are typical for the season, but it includes a purpley wine, a very deep green and, of course, a navy black and a coffee brown. Brown will stay very, very important. But the introduction of yellow, orchid, a purplish blue and jade green will be accents. In footwear, those could show up as gemstones, ribbon trim or any embellishment with unexpected color.

“There’s an element of glitter attached to the Byzantine theme. A lot of the illustrations to convey this are stained glass church windows, but these colors can be as modern as a Mondrian and very abstract, playing into the Mosaic idea. This theme includes metallics, shimmery gold, rich reds, vibrant blues and purples. There will be a wine color, but it’s a truer wine color. What this palette conveys is modernized nostalgia, in that it’s not duplicating a previous time period, but applying modern technology to it. In terms of shoes, we might be thinking about a platform sole and heel made with a new plastic or reconstructed wood, materials that speak of a new technology being used in a new way.

“Deconstructing-Reconstructing also follows the theme of revisiting the past, but it focuses more on neutrals, grey, gunmetal and cream. Ochre, brown and black are accented with topiary greens and lipstick red. You could describe this as old school. There has been a movement toward looking to The Gap and Ralph Lauren, but this is still a reinvented look. It’s buffalo plaids and Americana, but not as it was in the 80s. It’s a bolder way of combining plaids and checks.

“Multiple Identity is inspired by human coloring. The blues, irises and browns we see in eye color and the pink browns and roses we see in skin tone. It’s the mosaic of human coloring, and it makes for an unpredictable but interesting palette. It also has broad appeal. The consumer can find something he or she relates to. Someone with dark skin may look at a pair of brown shoes and say, hmm, if I wear those it will look as if I’m not wearing shoes at all, lengthening the leg. There’s lots of potential in this palette.”
Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie have arranged a re-make of the 1985 group song "We Are The World;" the new version will be recorded to benefit the victims of the earthquake in Haiti. According to E! It is expected that the new version will spawn a new <a href="http://www.mahalo.com/new-we-are-the-world-video" title="New We

Although it has not yet been confirmed, Wyclef Jean, who has been active in helping the people of Haiti with his Yele Haiti Foundation, may be a part of the new version. The late Michael Jackson, who also contributed to the original, may also be featured in the new version. According to Billboard.com, AEG, who created a 3-D tribute to Jackson for the 2010 Grammy Awards, is also co-producing the "We Are The World" concert at the Nokia Theater. It is likely that Jackson will be featured in Haiti's "We Are the World" since he already recorded the song for his last project This is It.
Most of the lovers are already planning for the day. What gift to give, where to meet, what to do to make the day more romantic than any other day?

Why and how is Valentine's Day celebrated? No one quite knows, why it is celebrated, but it surely makes a big difference in life of lovers. This is the most important day for lovers. They all go mad in love on this day,and can think of nothing but how to please their beloved. It is recorded that business of jewelry takes a big jump during February. So does the business of flowers, candies and cards. Every other gift that can be thought of is bought across most of the countries of the world and is sent to the beloved.

What about others? Valentine's Day may be the most important day for those in love. What about others? Let us take a look at today's world. Wars, terrorism, fear, murders, and every other destruction that can disturb a peaceful life is the norm. Open a newspaper, watch news on television or read it on Internet, the disturbing news is getting predominance. It depresses the common person in the world. Isn't it? What does a common person think of the future of such a world? Can anyone be optimistic? Can anyone visualize of peace dawning around the world, countries co existing in peace with each other and no ethnic wars being fought anywhere?
What does one look forward to in such a world? I think that most of us have become so numb with disturbances, both man made and natural that we have stopped thinking of future. For a large majority it is "let us try to live peacefully today".

Valentine's Day and the world peace -With so much destruction going around,, shouldn't one welcome a day, when love reigns supreme? A day, when hatred and destruction takes back seat and one only thinks of love? What if we begin a new way of celebration? Begin sending love messages to our enemies. Begin talking of love and peace and try something that can reduce our conflicts with others? Why keep the day confined to romantic love. Take a step forward and make it a day to make every human being love another. Irrespective of race, nation, religion, etc. Break all the outer barriers and try to touch the heart of all we can? Can this be done? Let us at least think of Valentine's Day as a day, when all the hatred and enmity is forgotten and it is the song of love that is played around. Is that not a big contribution of this day? That is why it is so important.

Read the gift guide! Coming soon!

Get to know MTV's soon-to-be bad boy on the block, Jayson Blair. Yes, you can hear the girls swoon. MTV's set to debut The Adventures of RJ Berger in June, but you can get to know the handsome hottie now. Blair plays resident BMOC (Big Man on Campus, for those who have no clue), Max Owen, who enjoys antagonizing the beloved dorky title character, RJ. The buzz about this highly anticipated scripted show is bringing a new flavor to MTV. With David Katzenberg at the helm, you can rest assured that when someone mentions the hideous Jersey Shore, you'll be saying "Forgettabout it!' This show is being hailed "Wonder Years" meets "SuperBad" and promises to entertain on a scripted series, not on wanna-be-reality nonsense.

Blair's passion for acting came at a young age and his career thus far is flourishing. If his name doesn't ring a bell, just yet, I bet you will recognize him as the cute guy in the elevator in the Taco Bell commercials last summer holding the Queso Crunchwrap. Yes, he made fast food, super sexy. And that isn't even scratching the surface, he's appeared on Glee, CSI: NY, and Heroes, just to name a few. And the future is bright for this up and comer. With upcoming roles in the films, Public Relations and The Steamroom, next to his series regular role as MTV's most popular love-to-hate jock.
And now, I can call him a client. I'm excited about the future of this very deserving young actor.
Anyone who has ever been involved in a long-distance relationship knows that distance only makes the heart grow fonder when distance is not the norm. However, it is not all bad and there are limitless things you can do to make a long-distance relationship both fulfilling and feel "normal." There are so many circumstances that cause people to be separated from their significant other, such as military deployment, relocation because of work or school, and the introduction of new relationships via social networking websites. Most of us have been involved in some kind of long-distance relationship with family, friends, and business associates, but undoubtedly, the hardest to maintain is a romantic long-distance relationship. As with any relationship, communication, trust, routine, surprise, and memories are important aspects that will keep the relationship fresh and healthy. I would like to give some ideas and pointers to making your long-distance relationship (or possibility of such a relationship) much more tolerable and (hopefully) enjoyable.

1. Ask yourself how much passion you feel for the other person. Do you eagerly anticipate visits, e-mail and phone calls? Or is making contact a chore?

2. Consider how much attention you give your partner. Do you return e-mail promptly? Do you call when you say you will?

3. Think about how your partner treats you. Is your partner putting as much effort into the relationship as you are? Do you feel cherished? Taken for granted? Neglected?

4. Consider how often you see each other. Do you visit as often as you can? If you frequently choose to spend your time and money on other priorities, you may need to question how important this relationship is to you.

5. Ask yourself whether you trust the other person. Do you feel suspicious about activities or friendships when you're apart? Trust is important in any relationship, but when you're far away, it's even more crucial.

6. Think about the way the two of you communicate. Are you honest and open with each other? Can you be yourselves when you're together? Do you share the day-to-day details of your lives?

7. Consider to what extent your lives are intertwined. Although you're bound to have separate social lives, it's a good sign if you know each other's new friends.

8. Be honest with yourself about why you're in this relationship. Are you motivated by a fear of being alone?

9. Consider your future plans. Do you discuss living in the same city in the future? Do you have a concrete strategy for achieving that?

10. Ask yourself whether your life apart from the other person is more interesting than being together. If so, it may be time to move on.Toni Ferrarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00879798729588653269noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4992731293373535279.post-65247788027045661112010-01-21T14:54:00.000-08:002010-01-21T14:54:19.970-08:00HOW TO MAKE A LONG DISTANCE RELATIONSHIP LAST

Whoever first said that absence makes the heart grow fonder never contended with the weekend airport rush. Here are some ways to hold on to your long-distance lover - and your sanity.

Step 1: Keep in touch daily. If large phone bills are a concern, send e-mail, letters, cards and even faxes.

Step 2: Plan reunions to keep both of you pleased about the relationship. If your partner needs closeness, set up plans to meet often. Having a phone-date to look forward to can help you through the rough times.

Step 3: Reaffirm your love and commitment to one another. Try not to assume that the relationship is thriving. Listen to your partner's concerns and communicate your own before they become bigger problems.

Step 4: Keep your partner informed about your life. You may live separately, but sharing information about your activities and friends is still important.

Step 5: Trust in one another. Suspicion will only break the relationship down.

Step 6: Keep the relationship a high priority. Avoid canceling phone-dates or forgetting to make a phone call.

Step 7: Focus on the future. Make plans to live in the same city eventually.Toni Ferrarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00879798729588653269noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4992731293373535279.post-3310923029063270142010-01-21T12:15:00.000-08:002010-01-21T12:17:02.403-08:00TECHNO ROMANCE: DATING 2010

In the age where texting instead of talking, and social networking that can cause so much unnecessary drama, that it's almost comical, dating has changed. So what is appropriate and what isn't appropriate, I went straight to my friends (both girls and guys). And came up with a pretty good list of Do's & Don'ts that are pretty typical according to both sexes.

DO's

Understand the purpose of a "social networking site". Everyone uses a social networking site differently, some use it for business and some use it to really keep in touch with friends from high school, college, work, etc. Both sexes say that facebook can cause unnecessary drama because there is no respect boundaries.

Good Morning, beautiful. Is a great way to start the morning. The girls that have received these texts say that a morning text like that could make their whole day. And ladies, it's ok to start it off by texting your guy "Good Morning, handsome," I asked the men and they said that they'd smile if they received a simple text like that.

Allow comments. Allow the person you are dating to post on your "Wall". And definitely recipricate. The groups of men and women I spoke to, like to know that the person they are dating is thinking about them throughout the day, or like one of the guys said, "I like to know that she can't get me off her mind."

Keep your "stalkers" at bay. Ladies, we all know you are a sexy little thing, but the guys aren't really into reading about the other guys who leave you messages like, "I miss you, baby." Don't get me wrong it's ok that your friends who are the opposite sex might miss you, but 'baby' isn't appropriate. And guys, listen up, one of the pet peeves of the ladies, is the "girl" who comments on every single thing you post. You could post, "I just went to the bathroom" and that "girl" will "like it" or leave some lame comment. We kinda don't like "the girl" and it has nothing to do with being insecure at all, it has to do with appropriateness and respectful. And if we were in a different environment, she'd be what Vince Vaughn calls a "Stage 5 clinger" in Wedding Crashers.

It's ok to "like" a friend's photo, but, . . .ladies, let's be respectful of the fellas, do not like or comment something disrespectful on a male friend's photo that is shirtless. We all know that guy friend deserves kudos for putting in the extra time in the gym, but would you like it if a guy did that to a scantily clad female friend? Yea, exactly.

DON'TS

Here are a few warning signs that might hint that that person may not be "that" into you. Because if you address it and it's still happening, . . .I hate to say this, but move on, . . .Here are some of guys and girls gripes when it comes to 2010's and it's "Techno-Romance".

Communicate Clearly. Texting and email is great for short messages that you either do not have the time to say, or to see if you are still on for your date, running late, etc. The downfall behind texting, emailing, and facebooking is that "TONE" is 20% of your communication. The way someone says something is soo important. Not sure you understand, try this exercise. Say the phrase: "I love my job.", say it like you are so happy, you just got a job that you love. Now, say "I love my job.", as if your boss just came in and called you an awful name and handed you even more work to do. The words don't necessarily matter, it's more of the inflection. It's important to have "phone" conversations too. Guys, women fall in love between the ears. Ladies, men fall in love with their eyes.

When "SHE" writes "I LOVE YOU" every single day. Again, appropriateness, we get it, you like, or love each other, but guys do not need you to write that on their page every single day. And guys, girls aren't really a big fan of it either. It's like "pissing on your territory" and its not really attractive.

When "HE" facebooks more than he communicates with you. This actually works for both sexes. If you really like the significant other that you are dating, you should really try the whole texting "Good morning beautiful" or "Good morning handsome", before playing for hours on Facebook. Too much facebook can ruin a relationship. Jason says, "I adore this girl that I am dating, but when she is constantly playing on facebook and hasn't even acknowledged me for the day, it makes me wonder what is more important, Facebook or me." And ladies, I've heard it from you too. Michelle says, "One of my biggest pet peeves on Myspace is when the guy I am dating is posting all kinds of bulletins and blogs, but doesn't respond to any of my texts. Am I wrong?" Looks like we can honestly say now that social networking has increased our unemployment rate even more.

Don't get mad about it, Talk about it. If you are trying to have an "adult" relationship, both sexes, listen up! Instead of getting mad about something when it comes to techno-romance, such as, texting, emailing, and facebooking, TALK ABOUT IT.

If you are blocked/deleted, even after you have worked it out. Warning sign! Either the argument isn't ok, like you think it is or that person is just really not that into you. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out!Toni Ferrarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00879798729588653269noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4992731293373535279.post-39885501029056026222010-01-09T23:45:00.000-08:002010-01-09T23:45:28.395-08:00DAY 6: NO SUGAR, OH HONEY, HONEY!

DAY 6: NO SUGAR, OH HONEY, HONEY!
When substituting honey for sugar in a recipe, simply substitute honey cup for cup in place of sugar. As a rule reduce the liquid by a ¼ cup for every cup of honey used. In baked goods add ½ tsp. of baking soda for every cup of honey used and reduce oven tempeture 25 degrees than instructions call for. In cookie recipes using eggs and no additional liquid, increase the flour by 2 tablespoons per cup of honey or enough flour to give the desired consistency. Chill before shaping and baking. Helpful Hint: Honey can be measured easily by using the same cup used for measuring the oil in a recipe or by coating a cup or spoon with non-stick vegetable spray. Baked goods with honey brown faster and crisp faster than sugar batter.

A 12 oz. jar of honey equals one cup.

If you want a honey flavor in your recipe, use a stronger flavor honey, if used on for its sweetness you can use the lighter, mild flavored honey. Toni Ferrarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00879798729588653269noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4992731293373535279.post-70748141338733055172010-01-08T19:43:00.000-08:002010-01-08T19:52:26.727-08:00IN MY OWN WORDS: NFL PLAYERS

Is Twitter becoming a place where celebs can encourage ignorance? I thought Twitter was a great way to show support for kids in Africa and thanks to the positivity of Ashton and Demi, children are sleeping with mosquito nets and the world is just a little bit better of a place. Well, they say ignorance is bliss, I say ignorance is spreading through social networking sites, such a Twitter, and it's disgustting.

I just happened to be on Twitter, as I saw supermodel, Joanna Krupa post:
@joannakrupa: pls sign the petition against the monster and murderer michael vick!!!!!

followed by a @joannakrupa:http://www.change.org/actions/view/petition_against_awarding_michael_vick_the_ed_block_courage_award.

Since when is it ok to allow convicted murderers to win awards and play in the NFL, but Michael Vick who was reinstated by NFL commissioner, Roger Goodell this year, after his poor choices with dogfighting in 2007 and since then has served time, can't even receive an award? Don't get me wrong, I am a HUGE animal lover, I rescue/foster dogs and 2 of my own dogs are rescues, but really people?? Think about this long and hard, what happened to forgiveness? Where does this hate stem from?

The man has served his time and paid his dues. And why do people use their celebrity status to encourage this ignorance? I adore Joanna, I even voted for her while she was on Dancing with the Stars, but maybe she needs to do her homework before posting next time. Yes, there are NFL players that are convicted murderers, look them up. I am not here to slander anyone's name or reputation, but what I am here to do is to say WHY??? Hasn't Michael Vick been served enough scrutiny? I think people need to promote LOVE and not HATE, it's 2010 after all, it's about opening your heart and forgiving, if we continue to live in the past, what does that say about our future?

DAY 4: EAT CLEAN. Sounds kinda simple, right? Eat clean. Eating clean, simply means to eat organic foods sans the sugar, added sodium, chemicals, and unhealthy fats, even dairy. So, I know what your thinking, you just gave me a list of the additives that make food taste good, am I correct? Well, not necessarily, what I did give you was the reason you are retaining water, can't lose the weight? always feel bloated? have skin irritations? even allergies?

It is eating the way nature intended. You eat the foods our bodies evolved to function best on, and that makes you feel – and look – fantastic. When you Eat Clean you eat more often. You will eat lean protein, complex carbs, and healthy fats. These practices keep your blood-sugar levels stable and keep you satisfied. The best part is that if you need to lose weight it will happen almost without you having to try. And yes, you can have a treat now and again.

Best of all, Eating Clean keeps you feeling great and full of energy. In fact, you can forget all about the days when “dieting” meant feelings of hunger, lethargy or deprivation.

Eating Clean is not a fad; it’s a way of life. When you Eat Clean your body will react by losing weight if you need to lose, maintaining a healthy weight if that’s where you are, and even gaining weight if you are too skinny. But regardless of whether you want to lose, maintain or gain, you will feel better than you ever have before.
Never worry about counting calories again. You will never have to diet. Eating Clean will keep you lean and healthy for the rest of your long life.
Are you listening now? I am not suggesting becoming a vegetarian or even a vegan, however, adapting some of their nutritional ways can be very advantageous to living a healthier or better you. We all love junk food, I mean that is why the US is so obese. Remember it's all about moderation, but if you are serious about wanting to be a 10 in 2010, then junk food is so 2009!

Instead opt for these foods:

Lean proteins (chicken or turkey breast, fish, egg whites … )

Fresh fruits that aren’t high in sugar (berries, grapefruit, bananas, apples, pears … )

Whole carbs (brown rice, regular [not quick oats] oatmeal, steel cut oats, sweet potatoes … )

Vegetables (green beans, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, tomatoes, mushrooms … )

I also drink clean:

Clean water (through Brita Water Pitcher)

Black tea (nothing added)

Herbal tea

What does it mean when I say, "I eat clean"? I’m off of the refined sugar, flour, added sodium, unhealthy fats, dairy, and I’m sticking to food that is unprocessed and doesn’t contain the added gunk.

As far as the refined sugar and gunk goes, does this mean that if you’re eating clean that you never get to eat anything with refined sugar or flour in it, ever again? If you are a true sugar addict the answer is yes, just like an alcoholic doesn’t drink again, but one day at a time remains sober.

Hope this helps! Thanks Emily for the email. I don't really believe in "cleanses" or "fasts", but I do think it's important to change up your diet and incorporate more organic veggies into the mix.Toni Ferrarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00879798729588653269noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4992731293373535279.post-53613037302575708782010-01-06T04:52:00.000-08:002010-01-06T15:44:08.181-08:00DAY 3: BE INSPIRED

What inspires you in life? What makes you get out of bed each morning? Is it your boyfriend? girlfriend? best friend? brother? sister? child? What about just because of YOU? We all need things that inspire us, but at the end of the day, no one is putting the blood, sweat, and tears in except you. Our inspirations are lil things that keep us motivated to continue to push hard for the things we want in life.

For example, my inspiration is FASHION, FAMILY, HEALTH, and LOVE. How do I stay inspired? Believe it or not, I get that question asked to me almost every magazine interview. In work, we make what is called an INSPIRATION notebook, that inspires us creatively for photo shoots, looks, campaigns, etc. But when it comes to waking up each morning, the mere fact of being able to open my eyes, see the sunrise, to breathe, and to be able to walk are just a few little things that keep me going. See in the ability to understand that those gifts can be taken away at any moment is motivation to live life to it's fullest!

So, how do you stay inspired? Make a collage. I know, it sounds 3rd grade, but visual tools are the best way to stay inspired and motivated. For me, it's my laptop, I make my desktop background of my goals, photos of things I either aspire to become or want. Not sure how to achieve this, it's simple. Don't worry if you do not have Photoshop or Illustrator, just the PAINT program alone can help you 'cut & paste' a collage.

If you don't use your laptop/computer for work, make a collage with good old fashion scissors, magazines/photos, and glue on a basic piece of white paper. Place the collage on the fridge or on the mirror in your bathroom. That way it's a constant reminder of your goals. And in a moment of weakness, and we all have them, we are all human, you can reflect on the important things in life. This is also to remain humble and grateful for the things that you do find important. Always be blessed for your gifts! Life is too short to ever be unhappy. I have developed a mechanism for wanting to get over the hurt and pain so quickly, because happiness is everything to me! It is the one gift you can give yourself unselfishly that only leads to more happiness. A positive attitude is key to achieving a stable balance of heart, mind, and soul!

Now, stop reading the blog and get to work! Big goals= big work! Push yourself everyday to be a better person for those that inspire you! Have a blessed & inspired day!Toni Ferrarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00879798729588653269noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4992731293373535279.post-32446727777405176692010-01-05T10:08:00.000-08:002010-01-05T10:08:23.125-08:00DAY 2: GET PHYSICAL

Remember the 80's and a gorgeous Aussie telling you, 'Let's Get Physical', yes, even Olivia Newton-John knew that it was important to get physical. Now I know what you are thinking, I have no time. I'd beg to differ on that one, my friend. You have enough time to watch 'American Idol' or enough time to check Facebook, like 20 times, am I right?

Yea, I thought so. Start small and build up your endurance. If you are a morning person, schedule yourself 30 min every am before work or before you start your day to yourself. It's not just important for staying in shape, but it's important to your mental wellness. Yes, you are important! Yes, you matter! And yes, you deserve this time to yourself.

If you are an evening workout person, then make sure to save 30 min after dinner to dedicate to yourself. The dishes can wait! I swear! Not only will those 30 minutes make you stronger mentally, but they will also help you exert the day's energy and after a nice hot shower, you will sleep like a baby, I promise.

Start with a brisk walk around your block for 30 minutes. Take your Ipod and get into the groove while you get your heart rate elevated!

Not much of a walker then follow the instruction below.

Here's a healthy alternative to a 30 min walk

Start with arm crosses. Swing your arms infront of your body and back. Do this for 10 counts.

Windmills. Yes, you remember them from gym class. Alternate right arm and left arm, warming up the shoulder blades. Do this for 10 counts.

Neck rolls. Place your chin to your chest and roll your head clockwise, then counterclockwise. Do this for 10 counts.

Shoulder shrugs. Basically, its your way of telling the world or your co-workers that you can't confront, "I don't know." Shrug your shoulders up and down for 10 counts.

Jumping Jacks. Set your kitchen timer to 2 minutes and begin. Do not stop doing jumping jacks until the timer goes off.

High Knees. Set your kitchen timer to 2 minutes and begin. Raise your knees and almost jog in place. The higher your knees, the higher your heartbeat. Beginners, fear not, start slow and just jog in place.

Pushups. You didn't really think this was going to be easy did you? Assume the position. 10 pushups, pause, then do 10 more pushups. No cheating, get the most of your workout, push yourself!

Squats. Stand with your feet, shoulder length apart and squat. Make sure your back stays straight. Tummy tucked in. Arms extend out when you squat. Control your breathing. Count to 50. If you want to work on that tush, you should continue this exercise again atleast 3 more times. 200 squats is a great way to build up those buns.

Lunges with a bi-cep curl. Take 3 lb weights in each hand. Place one leg in front of the other and bend the leg in front, but keep the other leg straight. As you bend your knee, curl your bi-cep. Why should you work these 2 muscle groups together? It's about maximizing your calorie-burn. Bi-cep curls alone do not burn enough calories. Do this combo for a 20 count. Switch legs and repeat.

Repeat steps 1-9, 5 times.

I know it sounds cliche, but it's true. If you map out your plans to a New You and set your goals, then you will have a step by step outline of how to achieve those goals. Do you want to eat healthier? Lose 10 lbs? Have more energy?

Leave 2009's incomplete resolutions in the past, you are looking to a better future. Want to be a 10 in 2010? Here is what you will need:

A spiral bound notebook

A pen

A positive attitude

Get up each morning with a positive attitude, it's a new day! Don't carry the burden of yesterday with you! I love working out every am and every evening, but that is just me. It's how I choose to start my day and it's how I choose to end and relax for the night.

This spiral notebook goes everywhere with you. To work, to the kitchen, to pick up the kids at daycare, to the grocery store, you name it. It's a constant reminder of everything you set out to do! Also, document how much water you take in, here's a good idea: It's 2010- drink atleast 10- 8oz glasses of H2O everyday.

You don't have to actually write out water, water, or even make hash marks. Simply write H2O on the paper 10 times, each time you have a glass of water, cross it out. That way you know how much water you have left!Toni Ferrarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00879798729588653269noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4992731293373535279.post-53939432918446512672010-01-01T11:52:00.000-08:002010-01-05T00:02:56.646-08:00NEW YEAR, NEW YOU

HAPPY NEW YEAR! HAPPY NEW YOU! I am constantly asked to blog on other people's websites about all kinds of things, for instance: what products I use? what I do for exercise? how I stay motivated? what's in my Ipod? I believe it's important for everyone to believe in themselves and if reading my blog helps motivate you to better yourself, then I am very honored.

Since it is the New Year, I thought besides the Fashion advice that I give daily, you can also pick up a few of my favorite things that keep me strong mentally, physically, and emotionally. It's my resolution to inspire and educate people on thinking positively and living the best life possible. Be prepared to dive into the wonderful world that is Toni. I will share quotes that move me, stories or sayings from friends of mine who I hold dear, and I will answer questions that I get emailed.

Here's to 2010! And being a better YOU!Toni Ferrarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00879798729588653269noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4992731293373535279.post-82578978493663993982009-12-17T22:57:00.000-08:002009-12-17T22:57:44.645-08:00The ‘Coolest’ Musical in the Valley

Get Ready to ‘Take a Chance Again’ on an original musical that melts together the holiday classic tale of "Frosty the Snowman" and the songs of the legendary Barry Manilow. Add the laugh-out loud and witty improvisations of the Troubadours and ‘It Could Be Magic‘.

Roars of laughter were heard at the Falcon Theater in Burbank on Friday night, as the Troubie’s debuted their original rendition of “Frosty the Snow Manilow”. The fresh and always innovative comedy troupe continues to put a creative twist on the timeless holiday television special by Bass & Rankin. In typical tradition, we follow a group of quirky kids as they build a snowman after school. This isn’t just any snowman, there is something special about this pile of winter snow. Frosty becomes animated once a magical hat is place upon his head and he begins to dance around. Staying true to the program, Frosty’s first words are “Happy Birthday”. And Happy Birthday is a correct expression for this evening. This marks the 10th “birthday” of the Troubadours performing their whimsical and original renditions of beloved holiday stories.

Well, no story would be complete without the antagonist, the sneaky magician plots to get his hat back at any cost. Going off script kept the play light and fun, with jokes that poked fun at current events, such as, Tiger Woods infidelity, the White House party crashers, and even added quick jabs about the narrator’s colorful acting career. The audience was constantly engaged in the program because the one thing the Troubies do well is eliminating the fourth wall barrier. They march through the audience, grabbing purses and personal items to keep the energy alive and relish in the “shock and awes” and the moans and groans of the crowd.

The holiday musical that aptly defines the title combines classic tunes from Manilow’s catalog, including hits like, “I Write the Songs”, “Mandy”, and “Ready to Take a Chance”. The famous “Copacabana” gets a name change to “Greenhouse Cabana”, a huge and well-executed choreographed number full of high energy and thrills. Giving credit to the love-song crooner’s beginnings as a very successful jingle writer, the cast incorporated routines to the famous tunes he created for Coca Cola, McDonalds, and Band-AIDS during brief commercial breaks throughout the play.

This one-of-a-kind musical masterpiece couldn’t be pulled off with just any talent. This all-star cast is a blending of new faces and veterans to the acting world. The musical was brilliantly written by Matt Wells, who also played the conniving and murky magician. Wells is a veteran to this venue and his professional stage prescence was apparent with his ability to interact with the audience, nail every dance step, and literally pull a rabbit out of his hat. Speaking of rabbits, there would be no accuracy to the script without Hocus Pocus, the overtly sex-crazed rabbit who loves charades and humping anything that walked was played by the sensational Lorin Shapiro. Paul C. Vogt is originally clever as the lovable title character whose personality is far from chilly. His quick witted comments and banter with a young school girl named Karen, played by the talented Christine Lakin kept the audience in stitches. (If that name sounds familiar, she played Suzanne Sommers stepdaughter in the ABC comedy, “Step by Step” in the ‘90’s.) Lakin doesn’t miss a beat transitioning from bratty school girl to female lead with ease. Mixing even more originality into the storyline we meet the Winter Warlock performed by Beth Kennedy who steals the show with her unforgettable high-pitch voice and elaborate sparkly suit that covered stilts making her tower over the rest of the cast.

Rick Batalla could definitely land a gig as a Manilow impersonator in Vegas. His impeccable vocal styling sounded so much like the love-song legend that if you closed your eyes, you’d think Barry himself was belting out the tunes. Batalla went from post office worker to Jack Frost and was right on point with every note.

Casting seasoned actor, Jack McGee as the cranky, sarcastic narrator was genius. McGee is best known for his character of Chief Jerry Reilly on FX’s “Rescue Me”, aside from his lengthy imdb credits. The play pokes fun at McGee’s acting career in a playful manner, with mentions of his appearances on everything from MacGyver to Basic Instinct. McGee does double duty in professional style, as he transforms from the ornery storyteller to hip-hop Santa.

To round out the sensational cast, the Troubadours were accompanied by their amazing band led by Eric Heinly. The band added the sound effects for every character’s thought, movement, and emotion. Costumer, Sharon McGunigle brought the cast to life with each character’s whimsical ensemble, while Sherry Santillano created the beautiful two-dimensional town to life with her creative set. The character of Karen was perfectly precise as the television show adorned from head to toe in her orange coat and fuzzy earmuffs that kept her true to the storybook tale. Nadine Ellis and Ameenah Kaplan choreographed the show and gave even the mellowest Manilow tunes a makeover that kept the steps inventive and new.Toni Ferrarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00879798729588653269noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4992731293373535279.post-73539382132347896642009-12-14T20:58:00.000-08:002009-12-15T08:09:50.179-08:00TWAS THE STYLIST NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS

Thanks to Michael for coming up with this cute little Christmas poem for me. It's very clever!

Twas the stylish night before Christmas, when all through this fashion house

Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;

The Wolford stockings were hung by the chimney with care,

In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;

The fashionistas were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of Louboutins, Jimmy Choo, and Balenciaga danced in their heads;

And I was dressed in my cute Victoria Secret jammies, and cute Gucci cap,

Had just settled down for a long winter's nap,

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,

I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.

Hundreds of men dressed all in black, with their cameras they flashed,

And I threw on my Marc Jacobs dress, the one with the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow

Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below,

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,

But lots of cameras, and more than eight paparazzi, I fear

These guys were so lively, so clever, and quick,

I thought in a moment, where's Ashton, is this a trick?

More rapid than eagles their coursers they came,

And they whistled, and shouted, and called instructions the same;

Now, here! now, over there! and look over the shoulder, you little Vixen!

On, Come here! Pretend to kiss Cupid! Oh, give us a twirl and do a split-zen!

To the top of the head! to the tip of the toe!

Now flash away! flash away! flash away all!

Baffled and Confused, I didn't know if I should be flattered or cry,

But before I could blink, I realized they weren't after me, they were after the big guy!

So up to the house-top the paparazzi they flew,

To capture photos of the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof

The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.

As I glanced at my Cartier watch on my hand, and was turning around,

Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in faux fur, and Prada from his head to his foot,

And his clothes were clean, he avoided the ashes and soot;

A bundle of fashion finds he had flung on his back,

And he looked like a fashion maven just opening his Louis Vuitton pack.

His eyes -- how they twinkled like Clooney.

His dimples like Mario Lopez., how merry!

His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!

His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,

And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow;

The beautiful red rose that he held tight in his teeth,

And the Tiffany ornaments; he began to decorate the wreath;

He had a GQ face and a dark tan, that was fake

His cute lil body shook, like Kelis's "Milkshake".

He was handsome and dapper, a right jolly old man,

And I laughed when I saw him, he was such a ham;

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,

Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,

And filled all the stockings with stylish goodies; then turned with an erk,

And laying his finger aside of his nose,

And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,

And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.

But I heard him exclaim, as he drove out of sight,

When we found out that Tiger Woods has had affairs, it was hard not to wonder if he'd lost his mind. What reason could there be for him to risk losing his wife, the smoking-hot former model Elin Nordegren? Although we don't know the behind-the-scenes details of their marriage, infidelity experts say it's not surprising that guys like Tiger indulge in sideline action. As it turns out, the reasons guys are unfaithful are rarely about the sex itself, but because cheating fuels a deep psychological need. "Several factors make some men more likely to stray, even if they are dating or married to a beautiful woman," says Don-David Lusterman, PhD, author of Infidelity: A Survival Guide.

The first factor at work is the man's level of success. Guys in high-profile, powerful positions — such as celebrities, athletes, business executives, and politicians — often have a sense of superiority and entitlement. "These guys have achieved a certain status, and bedding several attractive women further reinforces it in their mind," says Lusterman. Moreover, these men are constantly on the road, away from their girlfriends and wives. At the same time, their prominence attracts a slew of hot chicks who offer no-strings-attached sex. "They may have a wonderful partner waiting at home, but the situation they're in, coupled with their role of pursuer, makes it that much easier to cheat," adds Lusterman.
But celebs aren't the only snakes. Plenty of regular guys are unfaithful too, especially when their backgrounds condone it. Many two-timers come from chauvinistic cultures or families where their fathers cheated. “There are internal blueprints (created by watching our parents) that make cheating more of an option for some guys,” according to Dr. Debbie Magids, author of All the Good Ones Aren’t Taken. Also, men who were ignored as children often develop deep trust issues, which can make long-term relationships really difficult. “Chronic cheating is rooted in an emotional emptiness that can give people the need to feel constantly desired,” she says.
Then there are guys whose bad behavior is actually a mental disorder. Sex addicts, for example, are so enslaved to the rush of sexual activity that they have affairs, visit prostitutes, and consume porn. "Ironically, many of them have happy relationships and feel guilty for cheating, but they can't stop," says Lusterman. Someone with narcissistic personality disorder, on the other hand, can't resist the temptation because he is obsessed with being adored.
Guys who have such extreme compulsions need psychiatric help. But just because a guy fits some of the other categories doesn't mean he'll automatically cheat. "It's important to pay attention to the warning signs, but whether a man will stray or not boils down to his level of honesty within the relationship and his loyalty to you," says Lusterman.Toni Ferrarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00879798729588653269noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4992731293373535279.post-53019385489336750962009-12-07T09:45:00.000-08:002009-12-07T09:45:15.453-08:00Q&A about FASHION STYLING

I was recently approached by high school student, Elizabeth Perez about participating in a small interview for a project she was working on. She was asked by her HS instructor to select a person in a field that she is interested. She selected me, which I am very flattered to have been chosen.

Here are the questions, . . .

1. Have you always had the passion for this type of career? I have loved fashion since I was a child. I use to make Barbie’s clothes and I use to sit by the tv and watch the award show red carpet and sketch dresses. So I’d say, yes, the fashion bug bit me as a young child.
2. Why did you pursue this career? I pursued this career by going to college and obtaining a Fashion Design degree and also by working retail A LOT! I wanted to make sure I knew about clothes, how they fit people, and how they made people feel.
3. Why is this career interesting to you? Being a fashion stylist is interesting to me because there is never a dull moment and the client you are dressing changes from day to day. I enjoy spontaneity and thinking on my feet. Creativity is the spice of life!
4. What do you like the most about your job? I love the clothes, . . .you really wouldn’t get into this career if you didn’t. I love couture, ready-to-wear, basics, lingerie-- you name it! I am virtually obsessed.
5. Do you think that your career life style is what you thought it would of been? Yes, and no. At first, I think the biggest misconception with my career lifestyle is that you instantly become wealthy. Styling is a skilled trade where you have to apprentice or intern, so prepare to eat a lot of PB & J and Ramen noodles. But just like everything that is worth it in life, if you can stick it out, you will definitely reap the benefits of having a solid paycheck and waking up every morning excited! There is no money in the world that can buy that happiness!
6. What are some of the specific things you need to know to go into this career? Specific skills that you need to know before pursuing a career in fashion styling is the body, how clothing drapes on it, what fits works on which body type, what colors accentuate certain skin and hair colors, how to NETWORK (this one would be the one I would say is most important, to be successful, you have to be able to be creative, business-minded, and a people person.
7. How many hours a week/weekends too do you work? Too many, ha. Just kidding, I love my career and wouldn’t trade it for the world. But you do work weekdays and weekends, there is always an event to go to in Hollywood, NY, Vegas, etc. Jokingly, I get referred to as the Fashion Doctor because I am on-call 24-7.
8. Do you have enough time for you and your family or is this a 24/7 job? This is very close to a 24/7 job, but the beauty of being freelance is that you make your own schedule, so if you are great at time management you can juggle family and friends and work!
9. How do you deal with stress, if any.
Every job has their stressful peaks, award season is a stressful time of year for all stylists. For me, in the morning before my conference calls to NY or client appointments, I make sure I make time to workout. Keeping a healthy balance of work and you is crucial to maintaining a level of happiness.
10. If you could give me career advice that you thought could really help me, what would it be?
Work! Get a job working retail at a major department store. Work as a retail associate and learn about customers. Build relationships with people by creating confidence in clothing. Know fabrics, fits, and silhouettes of bodies. Read. Pick up fashion magazines and read. Know your designers. Learn why a Marc Jacobs dress could never be mistaken for a Versace or a DVF (Diane Von Furstenberg). Then apprentice/intern with a known fashion stylist to see if you can really handle the long hours and the long days on shoots.Toni Ferrarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00879798729588653269noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4992731293373535279.post-30782114261701069252009-12-01T00:06:00.000-08:002009-12-01T00:06:08.308-08:00NICOLE RITCHIE KNOWS HER ABC

It's not an easy thing to transition from reality TV to scripted fare (just ask everyone who ever had higher ambitions than starring on The Hills), but <a class="name" href="http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/celebs/c114980_Nicole_Richie.html" onclick="s_objectID="http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/celebs/c114980_Nicole_Richie.html_1";return this.s_oc?this.s_oc(e):true">Nicole Richie is ready to make the leap.
The popular tabloid personality, famous for being famous as well as for her five seasons on The Simple Life with then-best friend <a class="name" href="http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/celebs/c115169_Paris_Hilton.html" onclick="s_objectID="http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/celebs/c115169_Paris_Hilton.html_1";return this.s_oc?this.s_oc(e):true">Paris Hilton, has signed a deal with ABC to star in a half-hour comedy.
According to <a href="http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118011971.html" onclick="s_objectID="http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118011971.html_1";return this.s_oc?this.s_oc(e):true" target="_blank">Variety, the pilot for the as-yet-untitled show is based on Richie's original idea and will be written by 30 Rock scribe Daisy Gardner and executive produced by Warren Bell and Jamie Tarses. (Bell is a nice fella best known for surviving seven seasons as the show runner of the much-maligned Jim Belushi comedy According to Jim; Tarses ran ABC for three years in the 1990s.)
But enough business chit-chat! What does Richie herself have to say about all this?
Richie posted about the new project <a href="http://nicolerichie.celebuzz.com/2009/11/big-news/" onclick="s_objectID="http://nicolerichie.celebuzz.com/2009/11/big-news/_1";return this.s_oc?this.s_oc(e):true" target="_blank">on her blog, stating, "I am so excited to announce that I am officially working on a television project! I am creating a half hour scripted comedy ABC in which I will be starring in, as well as producing.
"The story revolves around a young, modern and professional woman who must balance her business and family relationships. She must deal with, and navigate the many ideas of what a woman's role is: modern vs. traditional.
"Lately, I have been surrounded by many different women of all ages and walks of life. It amazes me to watch and observe how many different ideas there are about what a woman's role should be in this era. I've taken these fascinating ideas, and compiled them into something that I think will be very special (and funny!). We're still in the very early stages and I can't wait to share more with you soon!"
If all goes according to the typical TV schedule, Richie's show will shoot a pilot this spring, and if ABC likes what it sees in that sample episode, the series would presumably be picked up to premiere as part of the Alphabet's fall 2010 lineup.
Florida State's Bobby Bowden to retire.
Bobby Bowden said Monday evening at his home that he has not made a decision about his coaching future at Florida State and plans to meet with university officials again today.

Bowden told the Associated Press that he is still sifting through "options presented to him." Bowden met with Florida State President T.K. Wetherell and Athletic Director Randy Spetman for an hour Monday morning.

The Tallahassee Democrat and ESPN.com are reporting Bowden is expected to announce his retirement.

When asked about those reports, his wife, Ann, told AP that nothing had been finalized -- "that's why they're meeting [today]."

The 80-year-old coach said earlier Monday that there would be an announcement about his future today.

Bowden has said that before making a decision he had to do some soul searching, which probably will include mulling over the division of responsibility between him and coach-in-waiting Jimbo Fisher -- especially over changes in the assistant coaching ranks. Fisher, the offensive coordinator, receives $5 million from Florida State if he's not the head coach by January 2011.

Earlier this year, Bowden had strongly suggested he wanted 2010 to be his last season. But Bowden, whose 388 victories are second only to Penn State's Joe Paterno among major-college coaches, has also said he could not return as a head coach with no authority.Toni Ferrarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00879798729588653269noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4992731293373535279.post-60885694441233133392009-11-28T10:35:00.000-08:002009-11-28T10:35:11.433-08:00ROETHLISBERGER TO SIT OUT

Roethlisberger, however, has been had exercise-induced headaches, according to multiple news sources, and thus will not play. Roethlisberger has had four concussions since 2006.

"It's part of the nature of the beast of playing this game. It's a violent, physical contact sport and there's a chance you're going to get hit," Roethlisberger said Thursday. "You guys don't talk about the bruises we have all over our body. If I showed you a bruise on my shoulder and a bruise on my shin, it wouldn't get talked about as much. It's a violent sport we play."

In Roethlisberger's place, second-year player Dennis Dixon will make the start. Dixon moved up the depth chart when backup Charlie Batch sustained a wrist injury after taking over for Roethlisberger last week. Batch is expected to miss 2-4 weeks.

Tyler Palko, just signed to the practice squad this week, will be Dixon's backup on Sunday night.Toni Ferrarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00879798729588653269noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4992731293373535279.post-31869373346480494002009-11-26T10:28:00.000-08:002009-11-26T10:28:58.227-08:00MACY's THANKSGIVING DAY PARADE- WHERE TO STAY?

With temperatures often in the 40's, as well as the crowds on the Thanksgiving Day Parade route, it's no wonder that many visitors and locals decide they want to get a hotel room with a parade view to experience Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Hotels realize these rooms are valuable and often have strict rules and policies around their use.
Tips for Booking Parade View Hotel Rooms

It is typically best to call the hotel directly -- these rooms are carefully guarded and often available only through the hotel's in-house reservation or sales department

Thanksgiving Parade View rooms are sometimes made available as early as one year in advance, though the policies vary from hotel to hotel

Many hotels have strict limits on occupancy -- ask about the restrictions when making your reservation and before inviting your extended family to enjoy your room with you

Find out if there are a minimum number of nights required to book the parade view room -- some hotels have no such requirement, others have 2 or 3 night minimums

Be sure when to ask about cancellation/refund policies, as many hotels require guests to pay in full at the time of reservation with no chance of cancellation

Mid-level floors (approximately 7-15) tend to offer the best viewing experience -- in higher rooms the parade balloons may appear miniscule, and in lower rooms you may be craning your neck to catch a glimpse of the balloons

Find out if the hotel's entrance will offer a good view of the parade -- you can often get better pictures from the street than through a window, but your room will offer a peaceful respite after fighting the crowds on the street

These hotels have parade view rooms, but cannot guarantee them to guests.
